Hi Gary, Thanks for your thoughts, and for bringing these ideas up for discussion. Thinking a little about what you have proposed, I think that there is a framework, (think NDIS Practice Standards) but each individual or provider decides who they achieve the outcomes outlined in the practice standards. ...

I understand why this is tricky. Anyone going in for medical treatment would need to outsource their home maintenance, because they would not be home, however in this instance it is always outsourced. Is the medical treatment disability related? Maybe that would be the justification. Otherwise, it ...

Hi Alisha. I hope this is not too general. TAC previously had a service line that was an on call service. Organisations were paid a flat fee and providers who took this service were required to send a worker out within 30 minutes of a call. It was a way of not requiring 24/7 support. I did not see ...

We are current researching the best EAP for our service, and wanted the advice of NDP members. We want something that is both confidential and easy for staff to access when needed, but also provides quality service. We previous used a service that did not really meet our standard of support. If there ...

I agree with the previous two answers. We can't be too prescriptive because everyone is different. The idea of listening, watching, learning and understanding is key. From a pragmatic perspective I think think be self aware - understand your own values and how they might influence your decision making ...

There are a few ways. Do they need more funding? Is it a possibility to support a plan review to increase their funds available? Are there mainstream services that could meet the participant's needs? Can they be supported to research other services? Stay safe, stay well, Nicole Leathem ...

This is a great question. I think it highlights the responsibility of the worker to reflect on the relationship they have with their participant to identify whether their boundaries are still clear and professional and whether they are still the best person for the role. There is no time period, but ...

So many ways! We have an Improvement Suggestion Form and we encourage staff to send their suggestions that way. We also encourage suggestions every day through incidental communication and supervision. We have a quality register where were record all improvement plans to make sure when action the ideas ...

What has been one of the biggest lessons you have learned regarding the importance of boundaries? Many disability workers learn from experience about how having poor boundaries can impact negatively on the support we provide - this is because we care and the relationships we build with participants are ...

Great question! I fell into it accidentally - a friend recommended the job to me as a great part time option while studying. It was meaningful work, and could fit around study. I found I had good intuition for the work, and became passionate about improving the quality of care available to people. I ...
