  • 1.  NDIS Funding for Finding and Keeping a job

    Hi, Happy Wednesday all!

I have a question around NDIS Funding.

If a client has finding and keeping a job in there NDIS funding but then successfully gets a job in open employment. Do they loose that funding in there next plan if it hasn't been used? Can they get the funding back if they need it again?

    Thanks
    Nikki

Yes it's most likely, but if they need it down the track they could reapply through a change of circumstance. I guess what I would do if it was needed look at how you could apply some of the funding to keeping the job. However that would be up to the participant.

    Hi Nikki,

I have School Leaver Employment Supports ('SLES') as part of my portfolio of services and as such people have SLES funding or CB employment funding in their plans. SLES is a stated support item. All such funding is usually deemed to be 'capacity building'.

Finding and keeping a job funding is usually in place to help people prepare for work activity, refresh their training skills or learn new skills to build their capacity, whether they want to work independently , or, whether they need some support whilst at work and to maintain and sustain their employment as well as being 'job ready'.

I agree with the comments around change of circumstances, however, I believe that maintaining the funding when the plan is reviewed is contingent on a number of factors, specifically

    • When is the NDIS plan due for routine review? eg 1 month...18 months? I would anticipate that if the plan review is imminent, the CB employment funding will remain in place as a safeguard
    • What is the person's assessed needs and what are their goals - consider  a) how much disability specific related support did the person need to find their current job in mainstream employment? b) how much support may the person need to maintain their current employment

As finding and keeping a job funding is a 'capacity building' support, if the person has built sufficient capacity to find work and is able to independently liaise with a DES provider, do they really need this funding rolled over, or, is this a great opportunity to say they achieved their goal and to have some support to set new goals for their next plan

Good luck to the person with their new job, sounds like they're smashing their goals!

    Kind regards,

    Paula
