That is a great question.
We have seen growth in the sector since the introduction of NDIS in 2018 and then with COVID over the past two years. It has been very difficult to retain and attract staff. I think that most services are all having this challenge.
For myself, promoting a positive and inclusive workplace culture is the best way forward. This means that the organisation values both the people they support and their employees, by providing good training, opportunities to be heard, and systems for feedback. I think that workers need to be rewarded with more than just thank you at the end of the day. They need to enjoy what they are doing.
Employing people with the right attitude I think is the most important trait to look for. Skills and knowledge can be taught.
